The research group

The Biology Research Group on Mediterranean Plants at the University of the Balearic Islands (PlantMed-UIB) was officially formed in 2002. From the outset, our group has contributed to knowledge in the field of plant biology and its adaptations to the Mediterranean area. However, the focus of research has been extended to other areas where vegetation and crops are subjected to stressful environmental conditions, encompassing virtually all of the planet’s ecosystems today.

Research lines

The aim of this research line is to understand adaptations in photosynthesis and breathing of photosynthetic organisms in response to ambient variations

The main objective of this research line is to understand how photosynthetic organisms develop adaptations in their physiology to respond to variations in environmental conditions especially in a context of global change and drought

This line encompasses various aspects aimed at achieving sustainable agricultural production in a climate change context.

The research of this line is based on studying the biodiversity of the flora of both insular and microinsular environments (islands and small islets) and the problems related to its conservation, mainly in the context of the Balearic Islands.

Our team

In our group we are engaged in studying plant biology from different perspectives. We have researchers with varied profiles, such as physiologists, botany, chemicals, biochemists and agronomists, which allow us to function in a transdiciplinal way and to focus on vital scientific issues and the challenges of society.

Publications

The fruit of our research is collected in the publications. The research culminates in publication. Only in this way will knowledge and the transfer of knowledge be contributed.

Activities

The best solutions and ideas come from the collaborative work. Current projects at regional, state and European level. they reflect the group’s lines of research. The conclusion of agreements and contracts with companies is a response to the most applied vesting of our research.
